We all believe that is it important to end homelessness, feed the hungry, treat addiction, build strong families, and strengthen our community. All symptoms of poverty. But, to truly fight poverty, we need to treat the cause, not just the symptoms. There is a direct correlation between joblessness and poverty. According to “The 2017 Distressed Communities Index” there are 7 zip codes in the Las Vegas Metro Area that are considered most distressed. As you can see from the table below, all 7 of these zip codes have above average rates of Adults Not Working and above average Poverty Rate.
