According to the 2016 Distressed Communities Index (DCI) by the Economic Innovation Group, 39% of those who live in the 89101 zip code have no high school degree (25 years old and older); 36% are at or below the poverty line; and 58% of adults 16 years and older are not working. The DCI assesses the economic well-being of communities by using data from more than 25,000 zip codes across the United States.
