Economic Dynamism
Economic dynamism — the constant renewal of businesses, industries, and ideas — is essential to growth and opportunity. Yet in recent decades, the U.S. has experienced a slowdown in entrepreneurship, innovation, and worker mobility.
EIG’s work examines the causes and consequences of this decline and advances policies to restore America’s capacity for renewal. This includes efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship, expand small business formation, and remove barriers such as non-compete agreements that limit mobility and innovation. Through tools like the Index of State Dynamism, EIG tracks how these trends vary across states and highlights where economic renewal is taking hold.
