WASHINGTON, DC – Former Googler Matt Lockwood has joined the Economic Innovation Group (EIG) as Senior Director for Communications and Public Affairs. Matt will be a member of EIG’s senior leadership team, and will help guide its branding, messaging, and outreach to advance EIG’s mission of catalyzing broad-based economic growth in America by leveraging the power of entrepreneurs and investors through innovative public policy.

Matt previously worked at Google as the lead for strategy and communications for Google Maps imagery efforts, including Street View, and chief of staff for Google Maps at the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. Previously, he led executive communications at Caltech, served as a speechwriter for New York Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Mike Bloomberg, and practiced law at Willkie Farr & Gallagher in New York City.

“We are thrilled that Matt has joined EIG as our Communications Director,” said Steve Glickman, co-founder and executive director of EIG. “Matt has a rare background that combines communications expertise, technology savvy, and political knowhow, and he will be instrumental in demonstrating the impact that entrepreneurs and investors from across the country can have in addressing the serious challenges facing the U.S. economy.”

“Changing the public narrative about the bipartisan urgency of our economic challenges requires a strong communications strategy,” said John Lettieri, co-founder and senior director for policy and strategy. “With Matt on board, EIG will be better equipped to have an impact on the national conversation around entrepreneurship and the uneven economic recovery.

“I’m excited to join EIG co-founders Steve and John, as well as the rest of the EIG team,” said Matt. “I’m passionate about finding new ways to address the challenges that communities across the country are facing, and I’m looking forward to helping communicate the value that investors and entrepreneurs can bring to this conversation, so that more Americans will be full participants in the 21st century economy.”

Matt holds a BA in English, History, and Justice and Peace studies from Georgetown University, and a JD from the University of Iowa College Of Law. Matt joins EIG in Washington, D.C. from Mountain View, California with his wife, Sheri, and two children, Graham and Caswell.
