EIG Welcomes Economist Adam Ozimek To Its Economic Advisory Board

Nov 18, 2019

Washington D.C. – The Economic Innovation Group (EIG) today announced that Dr. Adam Ozimek, Chief Economist at Upwork ($UPWK), the leading online talent solution, has joined its Economic Advisory Board, where he will help inform the organization’s work on issues such as labor market dynamism, geographic inequality, and access to capital for struggling communities.

“Adam is one of the most creative and insightful thinkers in the country on issues that are core to EIG’s mission,” said EIG President and CEO John Lettieri. “His expertise will be invaluable to our ongoing research and policy work, and we couldn’t be more appreciative to have him as part of our Economic Advisory Board.”

“I am honored to join EIG’s Economic Advisory Board,” said Ozimek. “As a longtime admirer of EIG’s work on geographic inequality and the decline of dynamism in the U.S., I am eager to help address these important issues. I look forward to joining an outstanding team of experts and advisors who share an interest in this mission.”

Dr. Ozimek was the lead author of a recent EIG report, From Managing Decline to Building the Future,” which revealed how unprecedented demographic challenges are impacting regional economies through the housing market, local government finances, and depressed rates of business dynamism. The report proposed a new type of place-based policy — the “Heartland Visa” — as an innovative solution for connecting skilled immigrants to welcoming communities. The findings were widely cited and the Heartland Visa concept was endorsed by key policymakers, academics, and private sector stakeholders across the country, including the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

At Upwork, Dr. Ozimek leads the development of research in labor market trends and the future of work. Before joining Upwork in May 2019, Ozimek was a senior economist at Moody’s Analytics, where he managed U.S. demographics research and forecasts. Previously, he served as Director of Research for Econsult Solutions, a Philadelphia-based economics consulting firm. Ozimek’s research has been widely cited in leading publications, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Ozimek holds a Ph.D. in economics from Temple University.
