Washington, D.C. – The Economic Innovation Group (EIG) today announced the addition of Cardiff Garcia as Editorial Director, a new position that will bolster the organization’s efforts to advance research and ideas relating to America’s most pressing challenges. As part of the hire, EIG will also acquire The New Bazaar economics podcast, for which Garcia is the host and co-creator.
“I am thrilled to welcome a storyteller of Cardiff’s caliber to EIG,” said EIG President and Chief Executive Officer John Lettieri. “Cardiff’s remarkable talent for exploring economic trends and ideas will add exciting new dimensions to our work.”
“I have long absorbed and admired EIG’s work on economic geography, high-skilled immigration, remote work, and so many other topics,” said Garcia. “I can’t wait to start collaborating with my terrific new colleagues on ways to make the economy more dynamic and inclusive, and have lots of fun doing it.”
As Editorial Director, Garcia will lead the development and production of a new range of media properties designed to elevate EIG’s voice in the economic debate.
Garcia brings with him a wealth of experience in economics journalism. He is most recently the co-founder, with Aimee Keane, of podcast production and consulting company Bazaar Audio. He was previously the co-creator and co-host, alongside Stacey Vanek Smith, of NPR’s The Indicator from Planet Money podcast. And he was the US editor of FT Alphaville, the finance and economics blog of the Financial Times, where he also wrote for the newspaper’s On Wall Street column and was the founder and host of Alphachat, the longform economics podcast.
The New Bazaar will become EIG’s flagship podcast. In its first season, the show was named one of the best podcasts of the year by The Economist magazine, among other accolades, and it earned praise from listeners all across the ideological spectrum. Featuring conversations with economists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, journalists, and others who are documenting—and often influencing—US and global economic trends, the show will soon begin airing regular episodes from its new home at EIG.
