For months, Donald Trump‘s appeal appeared rooted most strongly among economically distressed voters. Such was the case in South Carolina, where his victory last month was fueled by outsize strength in the most economically challenged counties. Economic unease also played a role in his sweeping win a few days later in Nevada, where half the voters who cited the economy as their main worry backed Mr. Trump.
Now the primary is set to spill across 11 states on Super Tuesday, with contests covering an economic landscape as varied as the nation itself. And in nearly all of those states—ranging from the healthiest to the least healthy, with jobless rates from 3.7% to 6.5%—Mr. Trump looks strong. He is the odds-on favorite to win every state Tuesday expect Texas, where the race remains close, according to PredictWise.
