This week, EIG joins organizations across the country and throughout the world to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). GEW raises awareness about entrepreneurship and its contributions towards productivity, innovation, and economic growth. For example, in 2013, the country’s 406,350 startups created roughly 2.3 million jobs, accounting for nearly all of the economy’s net job creation. Check out the infographic below for a complete snapshot of U.S. entrepreneurship. The startup rate in the United States is near a historic low, which may explain why 40 percent of likely voters in a recent EIG swing state survey still feel like the economy is in recession.

Reversing the decline in entrepreneurship is one of the great economic challenges of our time—one we must tackle to ensure prosperity and opportunity are broadly shared in the decades ahead. That’s why EIG is working with policymakers from both sides of the aisle to ensure greater attention is paid to this issue at every level of government, including in the 2016 presidential race.
