The 2016 Distressed Communities Index:
An Analysis of Community Well-Being Across the United States

The Distressed Communities Index maps the dimensions of community well-being across the United States. This analysis finds that for those living in distressed zip codes, the years of U.S. economic recovery have continued to look more like an ongoing downturn, while the country’s most prosperous zip codes are booming. Economic well-being diverges across cities and states but even more starkly within them. The DCI aims to identify the communities most at risk of being left behind by the country’s wider economic growth and development. Download the report PDF.
