If you want to see the stark differences in the GOP presidential candidate field, ask them about poverty.
That’s what happened at the Kemp Forum on Expanding Opportunity, a gathering of GOP leaders and candidates in Columbia Jan. 9.
On the one hand, there were former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who want to increase the Earned Income Tax Credit — essentially a tax rebate to working Americans — as a way to fight poverty. Christie said he doubled the EITC in New Jersey, while simultaneously increasing fraud investigations related to the tax credit.
