The results are in for the 2017 Distressed Communities Index, and Hocking County was found categorized as “mid-tier” while individual zip codes ranged from “prosperous” to “distressed.” Completed by a bipartisan public policy organization, the Economic Innovation Group (EIG), the index is a broad-based assessment that uses Census Bureau data from 2011 thru 2015 to gather data in seven different categories on 99.9 percent of the country’s population. The study aims to enable the public to understand how their local well-being compares on a national scale.
